21st march - The 3rd annual cultural exhibition “Russia today” opened with grand ceremony during international week at one of the leading universities in Malaysia – University Malaysia.

Russia and its culture are well known at this institution: every year there are at least a dozen students taking the course in Russian language. The seminar “Russia’s history and culture” enjoys much popularity and is currently attended by at least 60 students. Naturally, a close bond has formed between the RCSC and University Malaya. Many joint activities are conducted regularly, and through their mutual efforts, books on Russian literature are published. One of them which deserves particular attention is an anthology of classic Russian literature “The Golden Rose” – the first of its kind in the history of Malaysia.

The exhibition was laid out at the assembly hall of the philological faculty, where photographs, printed materials, and many exhibits of Russian folklore art were on display. There were even Russian national costumes, in which the students delighted in taking photos with. The cognitive event attracted much attention from the auditory. In the course of the exhibition there was a demonstration of Russian films.

During his speech at the opening ceremony, the director of the RCSC M.Y. Popov talked of contemporary Russia, and its policy in south-east Asia, which is aimed at intensifying practical cooperation with this important region. He also noted the developing cultural and educational ties between Russian and Malaysia.

The exhibition “Russia today” is on showcase at University Malaya from the 21st to the 24th of March.
