On the 20th and 21st of June, the educational ties between Russia and Malaysia hit a new milestone. P.F. Litvitsky, vice rector of international ties from the First Moscow State Medical University (MSMU) and correspondent member of RAMS (Russian Academy of Medical Sciences), paid a visit to the north-east state of Terengganu and with the help of the RCSC gave a presentation of his university.

The direct cooperation between Terengganu and the First MSMU is a Russian regional educational project in Malaysia – the first of its kind. Its value can hardly be overestimated as other projects are sure to follow suit in its path. For example, a similar program would be launched in the state of Kelantan later this year.

During his stay in Terengganu, P.F. Litvitsky had a meeting with the Secretary of State Dato’ Haji Mazlan bin Ngah, who was briefed on the Russian medical university, its academic and clinical base as well as scientific potential. The vice-rector was thanked by the Secretary of State for his assistance in solving an acute social problem – providing the government clinics in Terengganu with qualified medical staff from top Russian medical universities. The Secretary of State also pointed out the historical fact when the youth of Terengganu started speaking in Russian. This of course speaks volumes of the growing interest that Malaysia shows in our country. The meeting also touched on the important topic of postgraduate education for Malaysian doctors, who can now carry out at the First MSMU scientific research and receive advanced degrees, which will no doubt contribute to raising the Malaysian medical standards.
